Imagine a 31-year-old single actress discovering motherhood for the first time by playing a mom to a 67-year-old actor. Sounds crazy? Yes it sure does, but that’s how Vidya Balan discovered motherhood - while shooting for R Balki’s film Paa in which none other than the sexagenarian stalwart Amitabh Bachchan plays her son.
However, it took time for Vidya to find the motherly instinct inside her.
“Initially, I wondered how to do the role as I didn't have that motherly instinct. But while working on the film I realised what motherhood is,” Vidya told reporters in Mumbai.
Moreover, she did not feel awkward playing the mom to Mr. Bachchan, whom she idolizes.
“I was a bit concerned initially but it was smooth sail once we started working together,” she said.
When quizzed more about motherhood and asked what kind of kid she would love to have, Vidya had no doubts.
“I would prefer a son like Abhishek. I have seen him with his father on the sets... he was so nice to his father that I was touched,” Vidya revealed.
In the movie, set for release on December 4, Vidya and Abhishek Bachchan play a married couple. Amitabh plays their son Auro who suffers from Progeria that triggers accelerated ageing in kids.
“The film is all about Auro and all through the film there is a certain sensibility about Auro, but no sympathy is shown towards the 13-year-old progeric child in the film,” Vidya said. Advertisement
