US man gets 3 years in prison for sex with horse

A South Carolina man caught on video having sex with a horse was sentenced on Wednesday to three years in prison after pleading guilty for the second time in two years to abusing the creature.

Rodell Vereen was also ordered never to go near the stable where the horse's owner caught him and held him for authorities at shotgun point over the summer. He apologized to the woman and to himself after admitting to buggery at the Horry County courthouse. "I'm sorry about what I've done. I didn't mean to do it. It's my fault. I'm sorry for what I've done to myself," Vereen said during Wednesday's court hearing.

Vereen was arrested in July after Barbara Kenley caught him entering the barn at Lazy B Stables in Longs, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Myrtle Beach. She had been staking out the stable for more than a week after setting up a surveillance camera and videotaping Vereen's assault on her 21-year-old horse named Sugar.

Kenley said she became suspicious because her horse was acting strange and getting infections, and she noticed things were moved around the barn and dirt was piled up near the horse's stall. It wasn't the first time she'd caught Vereen. In late 2007, Kenley found him asleep in the hay after assaulting her horse. For that offense, he also pleaded guilty to buggery, received probation and had to register as a sex offender.

On Wednesday, the judge sentenced Vereen to five years in prison, but he will only have to serve three years behind bars as long as he successfully completes two years of probation. Vereen also was ordered to undergo additional mental treatment after he gets out of prison and was told to stay away from Kenley's stable. Kenley told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach she was mostly happy with the verdict, but wished Vereen had got more prison time. "I've been through hell for the last year and it's caused a lot of hardship," Kenley told the newspaper. "There's a lot of ridicule and jokes going around about this thing. And a person can only take so much." Advertisement

Have sex, play better: Kirsten to Team India

Jo’burg: India’s South African coach Gary Kirsten offered an interesting advice to the country’s cricketers, urging them to boost their sex lives, which he feels would spur their on-field performances!

The secret document circulated among players by coach Gary Kirsten and mental conditioning expert Paddy Upton, is believed to have extensively explored the benefits of sex.

It came as India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their first Champions Trophy match in Centurion on Saturday.

"Yes it (sex) does, so go ahead and indulge," the document said, before detailing the benefits of a good sex life.

"From a physiological perspective, having sex increases testosterone levels, which cause an increase in strength, energy, aggression and competitiveness," the document said.

"Conversely, not having sex for a period of a few months causes a significant drop in testosterone levels in both males and females, with the corresponding passiveness and decrease in aggression."

The document quotes a professor and sports scientist at the University of Cape Town, Tim Noakes as saying that "sex was not a problem, but being up till 2:00 am, probably having a few drinks at a bar while trying to pick someone up, on the eve of a game, almost always was."

The option of "going solo" is also fine, if no partners were available, according to the document.

"If you want sex but do not have someone to share it with, one option is to go solo whilst imagining you have a partner, or a few partners, who are as beautiful as you wish to imagine," the document said.

"No pillow talk and no hugging required. Just roll over and go to sleep."

Enforced celibacy may also affect performance, the advice said.

"You may experience that your mind spends more time focusing on the fire in your groin than on good sport practice, preparation and sleep," the document said.

Besides sex, the document also stresses on the importance of being aggressive on the field from the start, self-improvement and healthy eating.

Kirsten wants the team to take note of their diet and remain healthy at all times of the year.

“For a team on tour most of the time, cricketers need a balanced & healthy diet. You are not an average man, so chose your food cleverly,” added the Indian coach.

Hailing Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar as a 'living example', the South African has asked his team to raise the bar and take their games and lives to greater heights by taking on more responsibility.

"Raise the bar, take our games and lives to even greater heights. Shift from blaming others to taking responsibility," the charter states. Advertisement

Have sex, Indian cricket team told

India has never been an aggressor at war…Indian cricket teams are not known to attack first, to dominate from the start…

Having sex increases testosterone levels, which causes an increase in strength, aggression and competitiveness. Conversely, not having sex for a few months causes a significant drop…

With never-before attention to detail, these excer-pts from a four-part document put together by India cricket coach Gary Kirsten and mental conditioning expert Paddy Upton, and handed over to the team members, indicate the seriousness with which Team India is taking its most recent attempt to be the world’s best.

From food to sex to self-improvement, the document Hindustan Times has accessed was also given to the team’s support staff in advance of the eight-nation Champions Trophy that kicked off in South Africa on Tuesday.

Vision statements are not new — and other teams do address such issues — but the depth of this one and the topics it addresses is.

What would have quickly caught the attention of India’s players, for instance, is the piece on sex. Tongue firmly in cheek, the document clarifies myths about sex and sporting performance.

While sex is a subject that is often on the minds of the players, it is seldom discussed officially. The first part though, deals with food, specifically outlining how eating habits make a difference to cricketers.

From obvious ways to avoid acidity, to developing habits that will help in the long run, to cautioning against diabetes, the document is a must-read.

Part Three deals with the need for attitudinal changes so as to grow not just as intelligent cricketers but also develop “social, emotional and spiritual intelligence.”

The final part explores why India has difficulties playing away from home, drawing parallels from India’s history as a country and the wars it has fought. How all of this will translate into performance on the field? Wait for the championship Advertisement

IIT Indian engineer is online sex Stalker

In perhaps the first such case involving an Indian in the US, police in Pennsylvania have arrested an Indian engineer, an IIT
graduate, on charges of using the internet for soliciting sex with a minor girl. According to Pennsylvania attorney general Tom Corbett, Nityanand Gopalika (30), in the US on a work visa, allegedly used a chat room to approach what he believed was a 13-year-old girl from Pittsburgh, who turned out to be an undercover agent from the Child Predator Unit.

Gopalika, who is from Purnia, Bihar, and a resident of State College, Pennsylvania, was arrested on July 1 when he arrived at a predetermined meeting location. He was arrested, arraigned and sent to the Butler County Jail after he failed to cough up $15,000 cash bail. His preliminary hearing is coming up on Friday, July 24.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the Child Predator Unit, Gopalika, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and DPS Bokaro, had a series of chats over several days, questioning the girl about her sexual experiences and describing the sex acts he wished to engage in with her.

Gopalika has also been charged with sending the girl two web cam videos that showed him nude or masturbating in front of his computer.

Cops seized two laptop computers from his vehicle, along with a digital camera, a cell phone allegedly containing a partially completed text message to the ``child'', condoms and directions to the meeting location.
The techie is charged with one count of attempted unlawful contact with a minor (related to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse), a first-degree felony which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
Additionally, Gopalika is charged with two counts of unlawful contact with a minor (related to obscene performances), along with one count of criminal use of a computer, all third-degree felonies — each punishable by up to seven years in prison and $15,000 fines.

Nityanand Gopalika's family in Purnia, when contacted, declined to either confirm or deny the information. His brother Shravan claimed he did not know of any arrest and that he had not spoken to Nityanand for two months. He, however, added: ``Please do something to help him''.

Negotiations have been going on for Gopalika's marriage. Gopal, another brother, told TOI on Thursday that the family was unaware of Gopalika's arrest. When informed about it, he refused to comment and, instead, said he would call back. Advertisement
