Aishwarya Rai to Play an old lady in next film

If Amitabh Bachchan has shown the way, could bahurani Aishwarya Rai Bachchan be far behind?
Big B pulled off the role of a 13-year-old kid suffering from progeria for his Balki directed film with a unbelievable transformation through prosthetic make-up and now Ash in her forthcoming Vipul Shah movie Action Replay is going through an equally elaborate makeover to look like an old lady for some scenes.

Apparently even Ash is being given her look by well-known Hollywood make-up artists and the process takes between 4-5 hours. While Amitabh's Auro was perfected by Christien Tinsley (The Passion of the Christ) and Dominie Till (The Lord Of The Rings trilogy), Ash is getting help from Paul Pattison who has earlier styled Mel Gibson for Braveheart and Tom Cruise for Mission Impossible.

An insider discloses, "The film is most probably about time travel and Ash will be seen playing an old lady in a portion of the movie. She had to patiently give over four hours to get the desired look -- which took many prior sittings just to be finalised. It was an everyday ordeal to first put on and then remove the make-up. Bachchan too went through a similar experience. But Ash was on time regularly for these sessions."

Confirms Vipul Shah, "Ash is playing an old lady in a portion of the film and she did have to spend around 4-6 hours everyday for the make-up, but she was extremely cooperative. It's a look people have never seen her in before -- it's our USP and a big secret." Advertisement

Kareena to beat Aishwarya Rai!

Even as her recent releases are bombing at the box office, Kareena Kapoor still remains the most sought after actor in Bollywood.Till now, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan is the highest paid actress in Bollywood, but Kareena could soon take it over if she accepts the huge sum of Rs 10 crore, believed to have been offered to her by Rohit Shetty to be a part of ‘Golmaal 3.’

A source told DNA, “Post ‘Jab We Met’, Kareena’s success graph has risen even more. She was apparently paid Rs2.5 crore for ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ and little more for ‘Golmaal 2’. Rohit’s film went on to become a hit and the director wants to repeat the cast for his next that will take the story forward. Till now, Kareena has never been a part of any sequel. So to make her sign this film, Rohit has offered Rs 10 crore.”

Aishwarya Rai to play Mumtaz Mahal

After bringing princess Jodha to life in Jodhaa-Akbar with a beautifully restrained performance, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to enter royal territory again by playing Mumtaz Mahal in a film based on the Taj Mahal.The film will have a budget of 30 million US dollars and will get more international coverage than Jodhaa-Akbar as Sir Ben Kingsley will play her co-star, Emperor Shah Jahan. The film, called Taj is produced by Kingsley’s newly launched SBK Productions. It is an epic and will be shot on location in Agra and Fatehpur Sikri. Co-incidentally, Aishwarya’s father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan has worked with the legendary actor in the upcoming Teen Patti and was blown away by his talent and knowledge of cinema. In fact, he was nervous about shooting with him.

Ben Kinglsey has spoken about the film in the international press. He is thrilled about the project which revolves around the building of the Taj Mahal. He had spoken to Ash about the film when they were shooting The Last Legion. The screenplay is being penned by British actor, playwright and novelist, David Ashton. The multi-million dollar film will also include Shah Jahan’s time spent in isolation. The film will go on the floors next year.Kingsley is really fond of India and its people and this movie will give him a chance to spend time in India and connect with the people and audiences.Kinglsey is charmed by Ash’s pristine, universally-appealing beauty and couldn’t think of casting anyone else. It obviously helps that Ash is an Indian and the face of Bollywood cinema in the west, which is why it makes for apt casting of her in the role of the legendary beauty.Kingsley’s wife, Brazilian actress Daniela Lavender will play Persian princess Kandahari Begum.

As for those who are skeptical about an Englishman playing the Mughal Emperor, it is time to watch Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi. Not many people know that Ben Kingsley was born Krishna Bhanji in the UK. His father, Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji was of Indian descent. Kingsley won an Oscar for his splendid, nuanced performance and it was hard to tell him apart from the real Mahatma. He is best remembered for that role.Bharat Bala Productions have wanted to make a film on the Taj Mahal with Aishwarya Rai since a very long time but the project hasn’t taken off. Earlier, Akbar Khan made the ambitious Taj Mahal with Sonia Jehan and Zulfi Sayed. The film also starred Kabir Bedi, Manisha Koirala, Kim Sharma and Arbaaz Kham, among others.

After being stuck in the cans, it released in 2005 and flopped. Let us see how Kingsley’s film turns out. Will it be doomed like its predecessors?

Salman-Aishwarya love story on reel now

Small-time filmmaker Javed Khan is all set to make a film that is said to be based on one of the most talked about love stories in Bollywood — that of Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai. The film titled Ajab Hai Ishq is gearing up to go on the floors soon. Javed Khan, who is producing the film and also playing the lead role of Salman Khan in the film, says, “If a love story is depicted authentically and emotionally, the film will surely attract the audience.

Ajab Hai Ishq is a love triangle. The story resembles the real life story of Ash and Sallu.”In real life, the two actors may have gone their separate ways, but Javed will show a different version. “I want to send home the message that if you love someone, you should get married to her or him. Leaving your loved one in the lurch will not bring peace in your life.”

Interestingly, singer Salamat, who recorded the title track of the film recently, had earlier sung the emotional number Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam from the Salman-Ash film by the same name.

I got Barbie offer four times: Aishwarya Rai

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been going around saying that she has always been the original choice for Barbie in the Bollywood. At an event to promote an international watch brand she endorses, Aishwarya was asked how she felt about Katrina Kaif – the Barbie hitting the markets on December 9 this year.The question seemed to have rubbed Ash the wrong way.

This is how she reacted to it: “I was asked by that brand (Barbie), not just now but, I think, since Miss World, then at the turn of millennium, then when my films were raging success after Canes and this year was the fourth time actually that I was requested by Barbie to walk the ramp on a particular day.”"But I was a committed professional working with Vipul Shah and he needed my date on that day so I was unable to accept that offer to walk the ramp that particular day for them,” she added.

Moreover, the Bachchan bahu (daughter-in-law) said she had no regrets for not becoming the Barbie girl of Bollywood. “No regrets whatsoever,” she commented. Asked any wishes for actress Katrina Kaif who got to endorse the brand Ash said, “Good luck to her.”

Aishwarya Rai wants to revive ABCL’s fortunes

Some good news for Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd (ABCL), for Big B’s daughter-in-law- Aishwrarya Rai seems to have taken full control of the once ailing banner. According to reports, ABCL is said to be on a road to recovery with its much-hyped upcoming film ‘Paa’.

After suffering a string of losses as its projects bombed at the Box Office, the company is now headed to reestablish itself in Bollywood, under the aegis of Aishwarya.Sources suggest that Ash is leaving nothing to chance and has taken over the charge of marketing strategy of ‘Paa’.

So whether it’s the head-in-the-box teaser ads, or Auro merchandise, Paa-and-I campaign strategies, or Big B visiting schools, all the promotional strategies for the film are filtered by Ash. Well, Ash… so far so good. Hope you’re able to revive the fortunes of ABCL.

Aishwarya upset over claim that she demanded exhorbitant fee

According to a statement issued by her publicist, they found it alarming and rather sad that a channel by issuing such a statement is trying to ride on the popularity of Aishwarya to get publicity for their reality show. The statement further comments that Bachchan, who is known to be a true professional, had to refuse the show on account of her commitment to films. She is currently busy with a gruelling schedule of Guzaarish, while Endhiran (Ro- bot), Action Replay and Ravaan are all near completion thus the subject of monies and costing never did arise as discussions did not go beyond schedules and dates.

The statement closes with “This is not the first reality show that Aishwarya has been approached for. Various proposals have come along but her schedules thus far have not allowed her to even consider the same. We would again like to reiterate that it was wrong and unfair for the channel to proclaim that Aishwarya Rai Bach- chan was too expensive and, therefore, they had to go with another host when the discussions did not even go beyond discussing dates”.

Jacqueline prefers Ash over Katrina!

The Sri Lankan beauty queen who made her Bollywood debut with Big B starrer Aladin is fed up of comparisons with Katrina and says that she wants to follow in the footsteps of Aishwarya Rai not Katrina Kaif.

Says Fernandez, "I have grown up watching Aishwarya make it big. The way she has handled her career is appreciable. She is the face of Indian cinema and a successful name in international arena," quips Jacqueline.

Jacquline will be next seen in Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai opposite Ritiesh once again. The film is slated to release in February 2010.

The Bachchan household might soon welcome a new member as Aishwarya Bachchan is looking forward to motherhood. Ash who turned 36 yesterday said that it would be a wonderful experience to be a mother and she was looking forward to it.

In a very candid mood the former Miss World said that she would let the world know of it and there was no need for speculations.Aishwarya opened up about her current being the daughter-in-law in one of the most revered families of Bollywood and said she was happy to have Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan as her in-laws.

She said that she shared awesome chemistry with her husband Abhishek Bachchan and both of them complemented each other in life.

Katrina refuses to wish Aishwarya Rai Happy Birthday!

Yesterday afternoon, the usually affable Katrina Kaif made her displeasure apparent by flatly refusing to wish Salman Khan’s former girlfriend Aishwarya Rai on her birthday. That too on national television.Katrina was in the midst of giving television interviews with good friend Ranbir Kapoor for their film, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. During the course of one of the interviews at Mehboob Studios, a reporter suddenly asked Ranbir to give a sound byte to wish Aishwarya on her birthday. Ranbir gladly obliged by wishing Aishwarya warmly.

When the reporter asked Katrina to wish Aishwarya, Katrina told the reporter that she doesn’t need to wish the actress as Ranbir has already done the needful. Certainly a clever way of masking her vexation on being asked to wish Salman’s ex-girlfriend.As soon as the interview ended, Katrina, who had kept a tight check on her anger, stormed out of the studio floor and rushed into her vanity van. She refused to come out for 45 long minutes.

Guess she wanted some much-needed space to calm down. One thing is for sure, Katrina is slowly but surely learning that being one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood requires a healthy balance between friends and rivals.

Aishwarya Rai wants to resurrect ABCL

Aishwarya Bachchan is now taking interest in resurrecting ABCL (AB Corp) and helping out with the marketing and promotion of Amitabh Bachchan’s forthcoming film, Paa. She wants Paa to do really well as it stars Amitabh and her hubby Abhishek Bachchan. She is taking all the marketing decisions related to the film and also has a say on how to promote the film.

Her ideas are appreciated by the Bachchans.Paa has a different story with Abhishek playing Amitabh’s dad. To make the film a commercial success, various strategies are being made. Aishwarya has also suggested a lot that they could do to promote the film.

Paa will be released in a month’s time.

My answer for this would be – YES. For Abhishek, he will soon enter his 35th year which is good for him. Aishwarya Rai, who has some of the plumiest project in her kitty, doesn’t have time for cameos, guest appearances or even TV shows, but she’s making an exception for her business manager Hari Singh.Hari has represented Ash ever since she began her Bollywood career and he is now turning producer with a film based on a woman-centric theme.

It tells the story of a war widow’s struggle for justice.Ash was approached to play the character of a lawyer who comes to the widow’s defence and she has reportedly given her nod. Ash would be part of a lot of courtroom drama in the second half of the film. Though it’s not the leading role, it’s very pivotal to the story.

The film will be directed by Jagmohan Mundhra who previously directed Ash as a battered Punjabi housewife in his film Provoked on domestic violence. Mundhra confirms that Ash would act in Hari Singh’s film but adds that her role isn’t a cameo.The remaining cast is yet to be finalized. The film will go on the floors next year.

Aishwarya Rai who’s paid close to 5 crores for a film and several lakhs for a cameo has agreed to be a part of business manager’s film for free.The film in question revolves around the story of a war widow and is being directed by Aishwarya’s business manager of 12 years Hari Singh. Hari has been Aishawarya’s close business advisory right from her pageant days and has supported her throughout. She has always respected his opinions and when Singh asked her to play a part in his film she happily obliged.

A source close to the actress explained, “The film is being directed by Jagmohan Mundra who earlier directed Ash in Provoked. Aishwarya’s character of a lawyer who appears at the end of the film fights the war brides case and her presence is crucial to the climax of the film. The emotional story of the trial and turbulences of the war bride will be essayed by Hari Singh’s daughter Bhumicka Singh who was earlier seen in the Akshaye Khanna – Priyanka Chopra starrer Aap Ki Khatir. They begin shoot by next year and everyones very excited that Aishwarya’s agreed to be a part of the film that too without any charge, she’s just giving back to Hari Singh for his years of diligent service to her.”

Jagmohan Mundra confirmed the news saying, ‘Its true, Hari Singh has approached me to do the film and Ash has a special appearance which is crucial to the climax of the film. I’m thrilled to team up with Ash again.’
