Sexiness not an asset: Neha Dhupia

The very mention of her name in a movie’s credits sparks off many presumptions. The most common one is that she plays a sexy siren once again. Such is the stereotype Neha Dhupia has come to live with during her years in Bollywood.

“I sincerely believe that the term 'sexy' is always used against me…No one seems to realise that I can do a lot more. Why don't people remember Mithya, Singh Is Kinng, Dasvidaniya or a ‘Maharathi’,” Dhupia is quoted as saying by a news agency.

While actresses usually take pride in being called sexy, Neha thinks her sexiness has become more of a liability than an asset for her career.

“I strongly believe that my biggest flaw is that I am sexy. Just because of that, it is always safely presumed that I would be busy out there seducing people on screen,” she says.

Though over the years Neha has played non-glam roles that focused more on her acting than anatomy, she feels a lot of people still see her as the sex kitten she was at the start of her career.

Coincidentally, in her upcoming film Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, she plays a hot girl who has a one-night stand with a married man at a drunken party.

Neha says it would be erroneous to presume that she plays a sexy seductress in the film.

“May be I am a victim myself in that party,” Neha says and leaves it for the viewers to find out when the movie releases on December 31. Advertisement

Neha Dhupia and Mugdha Godse for Shave India Movement

Bollywood actresses, Neha Dhupia and Mugdha Godse are united for one reason, and that is Shave India Movement.

Gillette Mach 3 Shave India Movement creates Limca Record and also attempts to break Guinness world record with 1858 men gathered at Mumbai’s Chitrakud grounds to shave and to crate India’s first world-record for most number of men shaved in a day in the same place.

This event was the perfect platform for Neha and Mugdha to re-iterate their support for the clean-shaven, well-groomed man.

Neha Dhupia dances to Titillate

With Jessica Simpson taking a flight back home, it's time for Neha Dhupia to be back to her usual business. The audience will now see Neha in an item number in Priyadarshan's forthcoming film where she gyrates suggestively and asks everybody: 'Do you want to touch me?' and 'Do you want to kiss me?'.

Neha said, "There's nothing wrong in the song because it's meant to be suggestive."
But wasn't she uncomfortable mouthing the lyrics knowing well that they were meant to titillate the audience? Isn't it something that she had avoided doing in the past 3-4 years?

"I did this for Priyan (Priyadarshan). This is my third film with him. When he visualises something in a particular way, there must be a big reason for it. He is a national award-winning director. I have no rules when it comes to him. I had no qualms in doing the song and was absolutely comfortable shooting it. Besides, the film is a pure Priyadarshan comedy and the character of the club dancer is an integral part of the funny situation that emerges later on," she said.

Other than the reality show with Jessica Simpson, Neha will be seen in one more international TV series after her debut international mini-series (Bollywood Hero) which premiered a couple of months ago.

"Only a few people know that I actually started off with a Japanese film (the role of Meena in Nattu Odoru! Ninja Densetsu released in 2000). In fact, that was my debut in front of the camera. It happened when I was in college. Now, I will be doing one more international series that was shot at the famous Times Square," she said.

Even though Neha is taking up international assignments one after the other, she has no intentions of leaving Bollywood.

"I don't intend to cut down on my work in Bollywood at all. I have five films releasing in the next few months," she said.

Neha ends saying: "Among them are Raat Gayi Bat Gayi opposite Rajat Kapoor and Vipul Shah's Action Replay. So, you are going to see a lot more of me in the next few months."
