Vidya Balan doen’t get along with kids in real life
If Abhishek Bachchan has carried his dad playing the progeric Auro piggyback in Paa, Vidya Balan had to carry another actor playing the same character’s younger version.The problem was, the physically-challenged 3-foot actor was almost the same weight as Vidya. She tripped and fell while doing the scene.His name is Little Kiran. But he’s anything but little age-wise. Though height-challenged 3-feet nothing, Little Kiran who has played parts in a number of Hollywood films including segments of Narnia, The Lord Of The Rings and Star Trek was brought to Mumbai to play Vidya Balan’s progeric son at a younger age than the Big B.It was when the shooting started that the director Balki suggested she carry him piggyback the way Abhishek carries the older Auro later in the film.
Says Vidya, “At first the idea of carrying a 53-year old man who happened to be a very warm and talented Gujarati artiste from London was very discouraging. But when you’re doing a film that you know somewhere is creating an unprecedented world you tend to get defiant as an actor.”Vidya recklessly agreed to carry a man who was older than her and almost the same weight.In doing so she tripped and fell and suffered an acute back-ache for a long time.But it was all worth it.Says Vidya, “It’s a passing shot. But I don’t think any actress in the world has done it. Carried a 53-year old man playing her son. But then which other actress my age gets to play Mr Bachchan’s mother?”Vidya says she might have hesitated in playing a mom if it was to a real child. “But with Mr Bachchan it was a straight yes.”The effort has paid off.
On Saturday night Vidya’s family saw Paa for the first time along with the Bachchans. “And my sister Priya howled all through. To her I’ll always be the little baby of the family and she the protective Didi. She couldn’t believe the trauma of a mother that I was projecting in Paa.” Be shocked if you like, but Vidya with all her nurturing personality can’t get along with kids in real life. “If I hold a baby for a while I get stressed. In Hey Babby the baby would bawl every time I had carry it.In Paa I had to mother a man who was far older. It took a lot of getting used to. The fact that Mr Bachchan kept referring to me as ‘Maa’ as soon he entered the sets, sure helped.”And now Vidya goes straight into playing his daughter in Sanjay Leela Bhansali-produced Chenaab Gandhi.“Isn’t that amazing?
It’s take a lot of getting used to. But I feel blessed. I’m done with trying to be someone I am not. I went through a period of tremendous turmoil when I was struggling to do roles that didn’t come naturally to me.But now in hindsight I think that confusion helped me pick Paa, Ishqya and Chenaab Gandhi. It’s gratifying to know today directors think of me for specific roles and not just as one of many choices.”A lot is being said about Vidya’s aesthetic clothes in Paa. “All thanks to Sabysachi Chakraborty.I think he understood my body language and my personality perfectly. And he dressed me up beautifully without overstepping the parameters of my character.”Expect Sabyasachi to dress up Vidya in her future films, please.

Vidya Balan Shies to do dirty Scenes !
Even the oft-cited reason ‘the demand of the script’ wasn’t able to convince Vidya Balan for this one. The demure babe, who has shown her bold side in the promos of director Abhishek Chaubey’s upcoming film Ishqiya, wasn’t game to do dirty dancing in a steamy song with her co-stars Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in the film.
Vidya’s refusal to do the pelvic jig to the modern rendition of the 70s popular raunchy song ‘Dhano ki aankhon mein’ came as a surprise because she has kissed Warsi and even mouthed the dirty expletive Ch#@ in the film.
Director Abhishek Chaubey and producer Vishal Bharadwaj eventually decided to shoot the song on Arshad and Naseer only.
In the film the two play an uncle-nephew duo on the run from law. They take shelter in a home where they both fall for a beautiful girl played by Vidya, who manipulates them with her charms.
‘Ishqiya’ has explicit abusive language and it remains to be seen how it clears the Censor hurdle. Advertisement
Vidya Balan received lots of flak for Paa
Not many actress will have the courage to say ‘yes’ to turn mother on screen for the fear of being typecast. And to play the mother of the megastar Amitabh Bachchan is a big challenge in itself. Vidya Balan is daring enough to play the role of a mother in the much-hyped film Paa, of course not without receiving the flaks.
Yes, Vidya Balan, who has been trashed for her fashion choices in the past, was criticized for putting on weight. But it was inevitable, as she plays Auro’s (Amitabh) mother in Paa. It is yet to be seen if her role in the film will bring her accolades, but one thing is for sure, this kind of role will not come everyday, as the film deals with progeria, a rare disorder that makes a person age at a very young age.
Vidya said that she received lots of bad comments because of her weight though she didn’t like criticism. But she wanted to push herself as a professional. She added that she feels healthier now.
It was a dream-come-true for her to play the mother of Amitabh Bachchan. She said that it was surreal but later became addictive because Amitabh was so convincing as the 13-year-old Auro. She added that she could connect to him as his mother.

I play sexually aggressive girl: Vidya Balan
Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, who is until now known for her typical Indian looks and her girl-next-door roles, is all set to throw in some surprise. She is in the news currently for her role in the much-anticipated film Paa but soon she will turn into a sexually aggressive girl.We are talking about her glamorous and bold role in her upcoming film Ishqiya produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and directed by debutante Abhishek Choubey.
The Parineeta actress said that her role in the film would shock the people but she enjoyed playing a bad girl. Vidya Balan clashes with Shahid Kapoor
Expect some fireworks at the very beginning of the year as festivities and celebrations continue from New Year celebrations to the entire month of January. There are number of movies lined up for release with massive battle in the happening ever since Karan Johar announced 12th January as the D-day for the arrival of Shahrukh Khan starer My Name Is Khan. There is an around frenzy amongst movies to arrive in January since no big film is risking competing with one of the first huge films of 2009.Two such films are Chance Pe Dance and Ishqiya that have pencilled in 15th January for their arrival on the big screen. Incidentally, the central protagonists of these films are Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan respectively, both of whom were seen together as a pair in Kismat Konnection
Both films were originally meant to arrive in 2009. However, Shahid Kapoor had two back-to-back releases in the form of Kaminey and Dil Bole Hadippa and it made sense for him to space out his film. On the other hand Ishqiya had to keep it’s release on hold since there was a flurry of releases in the last quarter of 2009.What surprises most about the release of Ishqiya is the fact that it was originally contemplating a 22nd January arrival. While 12th February too was being thought of (due to the relevance of bringing the love story over the Valentine weekend), confirmation of My Name Is Khan resulted in change of plans. While 22nd January had appeared to be a confirmed day of arrival, a sudden pre-poning by a week looks more than just a coincidence, considering the fact it clashes with Shahid’s Chance Pe Dance.However, to be fair to the decision of the makers, 22nd January is anyways crowded with Rann and Veer arriving on the same day.
In comparison, 15th January looks much lighter with only Chance Pe Dance looking probable so far. Confirms Vidya, “Yes, I was told over the weekend that 15th January is final for Ishqiya. Beyond that, I don’t have any knowledge about the reason behind the fixing of the release date.”Starring Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles, Ishqiya is directed by first timer Abhishek Chaubhey and is a co-production of Vishal Bhardwaj and Shemaroo’s Raman Maroo. On the other hand It’s My Life is a UTV production, features Genelia D’Souza as the leading lady and has film maker Ken Ghosh at the helm of affairs.

How Vidya Balan discovered motherhood?
Imagine a 31-year-old single actress discovering motherhood for the first time by playing a mom to a 67-year-old actor. Sounds crazy? Yes it sure does, but that’s how Vidya Balan discovered motherhood - while shooting for R Balki’s film Paa in which none other than the sexagenarian stalwart Amitabh Bachchan plays her son.
However, it took time for Vidya to find the motherly instinct inside her.
“Initially, I wondered how to do the role as I didn't have that motherly instinct. But while working on the film I realised what motherhood is,” Vidya told reporters in Mumbai.
Moreover, she did not feel awkward playing the mom to Mr. Bachchan, whom she idolizes.
“I was a bit concerned initially but it was smooth sail once we started working together,” she said.
When quizzed more about motherhood and asked what kind of kid she would love to have, Vidya had no doubts.
“I would prefer a son like Abhishek. I have seen him with his father on the sets... he was so nice to his father that I was touched,” Vidya revealed.
In the movie, set for release on December 4, Vidya and Abhishek Bachchan play a married couple. Amitabh plays their son Auro who suffers from Progeria that triggers accelerated ageing in kids.
“The film is all about Auro and all through the film there is a certain sensibility about Auro, but no sympathy is shown towards the 13-year-old progeric child in the film,” Vidya said. Advertisement
Vidya Balan’s over Shahid Kapoor
In a recent interview Vidya Balan publicly admitted that she has finally gotten over ex beau Shahid Kapoor.Vidya Balan spoke about how the break-up left her in a state of loneliness affecting her personal and professional life gravely. With all the issue made about her weight and appearance, the actress also lost several friends in the bargain. Her spat with close- friends and designers Manish Malhotra and Shabina Khan on her styling had them publicly swearing off from ever working with her again.Vidya is hoping to redeem herself with her upcoming films which will showcase in her light all together.
The actress spoke of her appearance and look in her upcoming films saying, ‘Paa will see me in the Indian look. I am very excited about Paa and Ishqiya both.The change started by losing…yes, I had gained a bit of weight. I didn’t lose weight to wear suggestive outfits. I lost weight to feel better about myself. I enjoy wearing Indian clothes.’ She also added the relationship with Shahid on a sour note saying, ‘If someone who matters to you talks you down, it can break you.That someone whose approval mattered to me started to constantly find faults with me.It started reflecting on me.
At that point of time, it was important to walk away from that relationship. I don’t want to take his name.’ On her disassociation with Shabina Khan she added, ‘I don’t bother about how people feel about me. What matters to me is how I feel about them. As for Shabina, what I feel about her is what I feel about any other professional acquaintance.’ She signs off saying, ‘Today, I am standing alone, but I am happy again. That’s all that is important to me.’

I would prefer a son like Abhishek: Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan, who plays Amitabh Bachchan's mother in Paa, was so impressed by Abhishek's caring behaviour towards his father during the shooting that she confesses she would like to have a son like Abhishek in real life.
"I would prefer a son like Abhishek. I have seen him with his father on the sets... he was so nice to his father that I was touched," Vidya told reporters in Mumbai on Saturday.
Director R Balakrishnan's "Paa" is an emotional story of a father-son relationship and Amitabh will be seen as Abhishek's 13-year-old son Auro who is suffering from a rare disease progeria, that accelerates ageing. The film releases on December 4.
"The film is all about Auro and all through the film there is a certain sensibility about Auro, but no sympathy is shown towards the 13-year-old progeric child in the film," said Vidya.
When the director approached her for the role, she wasn't sure about playing the mother of a progeric child. "Initially, I wondered how to do the role as I didn't have that motherly instinct. But while working on the film I realised what motherhood is," said Vidya.
She says playing Amitabh's mother wasn't difficult at all. "I was a bit concerned initially but it was smooth sail once we started working together."
Asked if it wasn't a risk to play a mother so early in her career, she said: "I didn't see any risk, rather it was a lifetime opportunity to get to work in such a wonderful film." Advertisement
Vidya Balan does a back-breaking job
Vidya Balan is still nursing her badly injured back as she had sprained it terribly while shooting for her forthcoming film that also stars Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan. The sudden injury was caused when she had to do a playful scene involving her and a plump child playing the child Big B in the movie. Vidya plays Amitabh's mother in R. Balki's movie.
A source close to Vidya who was present on the sets informs: "Vidya had to shoot a scene with a boy who plays the child Amitabh. The scene required Vidya to carry him on her shoulders. But there was a big hitch. The boy's weight was as much as the actor's. Vidya weighs 45 kgs and so did the plump boy."
The insider adds, "Vidya decided that she would go ahead and carry him on her shoulders nonetheless and showed no signs of apprehension. The scene was being shot and everything was going smoothly until suddenly there was this loud thud. We all realized Vidya had lost balance and had fallen flat on the ground along with the boy."
Vidya was so injured that the film-maker was thinking to can the shoot for the day. "Balki told Vidya that he could postpone the shoot. But Vidya stressed that she wanted to continue and the scene was successfully taken in the second take. But Vidya got a bad sprain on her back and she was in big pain. Immediate medical attention was provided to her as thankfully the sets had a doctor. She had to take good care of her back and is very careful that she doesn't sprain it at all to aggravate the injury. She is perfectly fine to do all work but she has to take care." Advertisement
Vidya Balan carries a 45 kg boy on her shoulders
Who says acting is easy? Not when you have to carry a boy weighing 45 kgs on your shoulders. Just ask actress Vidya Balan, who had to go through the exercise for her film Paa – and ended up falling.”In a scene, Vidya had to shoot with a child who is playing the younger version of Amitabh Bachchan in Paa.
The scene required Vidya to carry him on her shoulders,” said a source.”Vidya weighs 45 kg and so did the boy. Vidya carried him on her shoulders nevertheless. Suddenly there was this loud thud and people saw that she had lost balance and fallen on the ground along with the boy. The actress still completed the shot,” added the source.
Paa, slated for a December 4 release, revolves around a father-son relationship. While Abhishek Bachchan plays the father, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen as his son who is suffering from a rare disorder called progeria.

Vidya Balan Meets Her Old Friend After 10 Years
Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is a good friend which she recently proved. The actress was thrilled to meet her friend after 10 years. Vidya Balan was recently doing a photo shoot for a fashion magazine.
At Mehboob Studios where her old class mate Yeotania who is now a make-up artist was also present. According to the sources, in no time the actress recognized her old college friend.
Yeotania was so thrilled to know that the star of Bollywood recognized her.Yeotania said, "We were specialising in Sociology and were in the same class in St Xavier's College.
During those days, we kept in touch regularly exchanging notes and discussing studies. We lost touch after we passed out of college. She got busy with her own things and so did I."
"Once we got talking there was no stopping us. Vidya wanted to know everything about my life. What was I up to? What were my plans? Where had I been all these years? How was my family? etc. Of course, I answered all her questions and she answered mine. We fondly recalled our college days too. It was the most memorable photo session of my life," she added.
