Katrina Kaif - Most Googled Celebrity in India

According to a recent survey by Google, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is the most googled celebrity in India. She is the hottest search item on the Web among the Indians. Interestingly, Katrina pushed Michael Jackson to second place and her boyfriend Salman Khan to third place.

Google declared The Google Zeitgeist (Spirit of the Times 2009) few days back which is based on the internet searches made on Google India. Katrina Kaif received the top honour for the second consecutive year. She also ranked second as “Most Popular Mobile Queriesin India”.

Aishwarya Rai is at fourth place among the most googled celebrities in India, while Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are at fifth and sixth spots respectively. Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) is on seventh, followed by Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox and Sachin Tendulkar. Advertisement

Katrina Kaif is extremely possessive

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is very possessive of whatever she loves. We are not talking about her love life but the things she treasures from her car to footwear to clothes. You can take away anything from her but not the things she loves.Well, she has been advised to sell off her Audi car that was damaged by a mob of fans at a promotional event recently but she refused to let it off.

She is very possessive about it, as it’s the first expensive car she bought with her hard-earned money. Now, it won’t come as a surprise if she is possessive of her love too. Coincidentally, her boyfriend Salman Khan is also known for being over-possessive. Birds of the same weather flock together, they say!

Katrina nights out with Salman

The rumours of their break-up always do the rounds of the tinsel town but Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif always manage to come out strong. In what is being touted as a show of their strong bond Katrina performed in Dubai to some of her hit numbers with Salman. The actress disregarded medical advice to not go on stage and performed to a packed house

Katrina performed despite her ill-health and disregarding doctor’s advice not to go up to the stage for three months. It may be recalled that Katrina had been hospitalised after being struck by jaundice prior to the release of De Dana Dan which forced her to take rest and miss the promotional events of the movie. She is still suffering from low haemoglobin.

Sources close to her say that she has been flooded with calls from the organizers to perform at the event. Katrina was rumoured to have been paid Rs. 80 lakhs for the night and so there was no question of a pull out. Katrina took centre-stage, do a mock jig, and waved out to the crowds. Well not a bad deal for Rs. 80 lakhs.

Akshay sends Katrina get well soon wishes

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif is down with jaundice and missing from the promotions for her latest outing De Dana Dan. And her co-star Akshay Kumar was prompt in wishing her speedy recovery.Rumours were rife that the actress was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai Monday night, where she was diagnosed with jaundice and has been advised complete bed rest for a while.Asked if it were true, Akshay said: “Katrina is down with jaundice… We are missing her and hope she gets well soon.”

Apparently De Dana Dan is Akshay and Katrina’s sixth outing together after movies like Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and back to back hits like Namastey London, Welcome and Singh Is Kinng.They also starred recently in underwater thriller Blue.Akshay, who has had a string of flops this year with Chandni Chowk To China, 8×10 Tasveer, Kambakkht Ishq and Blue, is now keeping his fingers crossed for De Dana Dan.”Our chemistry does work and we’ve seen the results in Singh Is Kinng and other films and we expect the same from this film too.

This movie should do very well and I expect great returns for my producers. I have great expectations from this one,” he said. Akshay was here at the DT Cinema multiplex in Vasant Kunj to promote the movie with his co-stars Suniel Shetty, Neha Dhupia, Sameera Reddy and producer Sunil. A. Katrina Kaif down with jaundice

Katrina Kaif had to be rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra immediately after landing in the city late Monday night. The actress was in Udaipur for the promotion of De Dana Dan, which releases this week.She had been feeling under the weather for the past few days. Last week, she had fainted while performing at an event.

The constant travelling due to the promotions of her films has taken a toll on the star.Says Katrina’s business manager, “She was taken to the hospital for some tests as she is down with flu and was feeling weak. We decided to get a complete check-up done. She has been advised complete bed rest for the next week or till the fever goes down.

The biggest fear is that the viral fever is contagious and we don’t want the entire cast and crew coughing and sneezing while promoting the film.”

Kareena Kapoor follows Katrina’s footsteps

If Katrina Kaif gave her best performance so far in Kabir Khan’s New York it is now Kareena Kapoor’s turn to pull out all stops and deliver a walloping histrionic sixer in Rensil D’Silva’s Kurbaan. In uncannily similar roles. Both the actresses are featured in near-identical roles, of a wife who discovers her husband to be a closet-terrorist. Coincidentally both the films are located in the city of New York. Secretly both Katrina and Kareena see the role of the terrorist’s wife as a turning point in their respective careers.But what about the similarity between the two characters? Kurbaan director Rensil D’Silva doesn’t deny the similarities. “

If there are similarities between Kurbaan and New York then that’s fine. I’ve high regards for Kabir Khan as a filmmaker. If Kurbaan reminds audiences of Kabir’s film then I’m fine with that. It has worthy recall-value.”However Rensil cautions that every work on terror and terrorism has its own mood and purpose. “There can be any number of films on two people falling in love. It’s about how the individual director interprets the emotion of love.Likewise with the theme of terrorism. It’s open to a multitude of interpretations. I’d like to believe my films is essentially different from Kabir’s.”Kabir Khan was on the way to Cairo for the Cairo Film Festival for the screening of New York on Monday when he was contacted.

Khan said, “What can I say about the similarities between the two films that you’re pointing out? Kurbaan looks like a well-made film. If they’re similar then I’m sure that the audience that appreciated my New York will also take to this film.”But the real fight will be between Kareena and Katrina, both portraying similar roles and vying for the same popular awards at the end of the year.

Salman-Katrina want to enjoy before marriage

Many might be wondering why Salman Khan has not married in spite of his hair fading with age every passing year. All he got to do is to say ‘I’ll marry you,’ as he has a steady girlfriend in Katrina Kaif. But the couple has different plan. They want to enjoy as much as they can before tying the knot.Salman recently said in an interview that marriage is just a formality.

Katrina also thinks so. She said that one has to go back to the normal life after marriage in spite of the celebrations on the wedding day.Katrina went on to say that marriage is not a solution. She thinks that it is better to enjoy whatever happens before the marriage.

Well, it looks like marriage is still not on the cards for Salman and Katrina though the media has been speculating about it for a while now. Let the lovebirds have fun while it lasts.

What Vivek did to Salman was wrong: Katrina Kaif

Long after Salman Khan told in an interview that he would let his girlfriend Katrina Kaif work with anybody except ‘one idiot’ Vivek Oberoi, Katrina has finally opened up. She is not going to work with him as told by her beau.Yes you heard it right. Katrina understands Salman’s sentiments and will not work with Vivek.

She said what Vivek said and did to Salman was wrong. She added that somebody could still be her colleague if she thinks he has not done anything wrong but what Vivek did was genuinely wrong. It maybe recalled that Salman and Vivek had a public fight over Aishwarya Rai (now Aishwarya Bachchan) a few years ago.

Vivek was criticised for blasting Salman through the media. The duo has not patched up yet, and it looks like that will not happen any time soon!

Katrina dumps Salman for SRK?

For some time there have been reports about Katrina Kaif’s plan to launch her own production house. And for her maiden production, she is keen on remaking the French love sotry A la folie…pas du tout. According to tabloids, Katrina is super kicked about playing the role essayed in Audrey Tautou in the original. It seems she is already in talks with the French producers for purchasing the rights and is keen on roping in Vipul Shah as director.

The film is a love story about a young, dreamy eyed artist.But what makes Katrina’s maiden production interesting is her choice of co-star. Contrary to what one would have expected, it won’t be Salman Khan. Buzz is that she is vying for Sallu’s biggest rival Shah Rukh Khan who might feature in the project. Industry sources reveal that Katrina has been in talks with trade insiders to understand the finer details of production.

While she is still friendly with Salman Khan, she knows that for a romantic subject SRK is still the king. On the other hand Katrina is also keen to make films with her kucky mascot Akshay Kumar.

Katrina gets Rs. 2 crore for New Year’s Eve performance

A five-star hotel in Mumbai has roped in Katrina Kaif for Rs. 2 crore to perform at its New Year’s Eve party.

This is the highest amount an actress has ever been paid to perform at a single show.

Mallika Sherawat started the trend when she took Rs. 90 lakh two years ago for such a performance. Bipasha continued the trend last year.

This year the hotel was in two minds about Katrina and Deepika, but finally zeroed in on Katrina.

Since Deepika has just four films in her kitty with not too many hit songs, except “Om Shanti Om”, the hotel decided on Katrina.

Katrina will be performing on the hit numbers from her films “Singh is Kinng”, “Partner”, “Welcome” and “Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya”. Advertisement

Katrina Kaif wins Prakash's heart

Katrina Kaif has come a long way since she stepped into Bollywood in 2003. She was dubbed as a robotic-actress by many during the initial stage of her career but went on to become one of the most-demanded heroines. It's not only her looks and talent that have brought her this far. The professionalism in her has become her strength. Filmmaker Prakash Jha is the latest to be touched by her.

It happened when the shooting of Rajneeti was in progress. Katrina had to force the whole unit of the film to take rest for a day, as she found the dialogues for that day was too lengthy and tough. She told the filmmaker that she needed an extra day to practice the dialogues and that she would compensate for the day's shooting expenses.

As promised, she brought Rs.15 lakh in cash to the sets of Rajneeti and handed it to Prakash. She got what she asked for by the filmmaker refused to take the cash. Prakash said that he was touched by her professional gesture.

Katrina Kaif in trouble for fame

Honeymoon Travels director Reema Kagti, and not Shirish Kunder, is now developing Zoya Factor. The film, produced by Shahrukh Khan’s production company Red Chillies, is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name penned by Anuja Chauhan. Says a source, “Differences arose between SRK and Farah Khan’s hubby over the screenplay and script. They had severe creative issues. Both were looking at the script with a different vision.” At this point, SRK decided to change his director.SRK offered the film to Reema as she seemed to understand what he wanted to do with the film. But he forgot to tell Shirish that he was giving the project to someone else to work on.

Shirish found out by accident that the film no longer had his name on it. When Farah heard this, she was hurt and upset at the manner in which her hubby has been ousted. Adds the source, “Shirish had started work on the film and was looking for an actor who would play a cricketer. The film was supposed to go on the floors early next year.”Reema maintains, “I am writing the screenplay of the film, not directing it. Vishal Punjabi is directing Zoya Factor.” Vishal was the visual effects producer for the SRK starrer Paheli which he had also produced. Meanwhile, Shirish says, “I was never supposed to direct Zoya Factor, only Joker.” SRK remained unavailable for comment.What is Zoya Factor?

Katrina is a modern day marvel: Big B

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who caught up with actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif on the sets of reality show Bigg Boss 3 recently, is all praises for the latter and says she is a “modern day marvel”.”Katrina is a modern day marvel. From a non-Hindi speaking young shy and uncertain lady of Boom, she has grown and grown to become one of the most desired actresses in our fraternity,” Amitabh posted on his blog bigb.bigadda.com.

While Amitabh hosts the reality show, Ranbir and Katrina had appeared to promote their film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, which released on Friday.”They (Ranbir and Katrina) were charming and involved and sweet. Ranbir as you all know is related to me. His cousin – Rishi Kapoor’s elder sister’s son is married to Shweta, my daughter.

“I wished them happiness and success,” he said.In the meanwhile, Amitabh is himself busy charting the marketing plans of his forthcoming movie Paa, being touted as his best work so far. He plays a 13-year-old suffering from progeria, a rare disease, which causes premature ageing.

Ranbir -Katrina Hunting for Ghazab Couple

Aamir Khan created hysteria with his haircut in promoting his film Ghajini. Now here is another creative marketing strategy.

For the film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif are on a nation wide hunt for a Ghazab couple. Ranbir and Katrina are travelling to various cities across India to search for a couple with the most Ghazab love story.

Adds an industry insider, “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani team is latching onto a good marketing strategy. They are travelling across various prominent cities and taking time out to interact with these couples personally and listen to their love stories on how they met or if they had an interesting experience to share. The winning couple will then go on an exclusive outing with Ranbir and Katrina”

Adds trade analysts, “Their promotion
strategy is generating a lot of curiosity. It's the first time that such huge stars are taking time out to interact with fans, spend time with them and speak to them. The movie is sure to strike gold at the box office.”

Now what's left to see is if this Ghazab jodi’s efforts will pay off. Rajkumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani starring Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor is all set for release on November 6. Advertisement

Jacqueline prefers Ash over Katrina!

The Sri Lankan beauty queen who made her Bollywood debut with Big B starrer Aladin is fed up of comparisons with Katrina and says that she wants to follow in the footsteps of Aishwarya Rai not Katrina Kaif.

Says Fernandez, "I have grown up watching Aishwarya make it big. The way she has handled her career is appreciable. She is the face of Indian cinema and a successful name in international arena," quips Jacqueline.

Jacquline will be next seen in Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai opposite Ritiesh once again. The film is slated to release in February 2010.

Perhaps she should choose her co-stars a bit more wisely, if success is what she wants! Who can forget the debacle of Aladin. Advertisement

Katrina Kaif hankers for fresh compliments

Katrina Kaif is upset. Every director she works with tends to describe her as ‘hardworking’. When we spoke to Rajkumar Santoshi recently he too said the same thing. “Katrina is very hard working. When I worked with her, I understood what made her one of the top actresses in the industry. She puts everything into a movie and adopts the film as her own,” says Santoshi.

When we told the actress these words of praise for her, she did not seem to be happy though. “I will give a prize, a very good prize to any director who can come up with some other things to say about me. Everyone says the same thing. Hardworking! It gets boring. I wish people could use words like ‘inspirational’, ‘ motivational’ or something like that. It would be so much more interesting!” she said.

Well, we do have a word for the Katrina- ‘humourous’.

Bebo beats Katz and Priyanka

This latest development in Bollywood epitomizes the Hindi adage, ek teer se do nishane.

Kareena Kapoor, who since a long time was into a cold war with filmmaker Karan Johar is finally making efforts to make peace with him by giving a nod to every film that's coming her way from the production house. After Kurbaan, the actress not only has the Hindi remake of Stepmom in her kitty. If the sources are to be believed, Bebo has also taken over the leading lady's mantle from Priyanka Chopra in Dharma Production's Dostana sequel.

The sequel not only seals her friendship with the prestigious movie maker but also brings to end her long-standing strained relations with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham. It's known to all that Bebo had locked horns with John after her comments on his abilities made on KJo's chat show Koffee With Karan. And her antagonism for Abhishek was far more serious. The actors had decided not to work together after things soured between Abhishek and Bebo's sister Karisma Kapoor.

According to a source, Kareena had turned down Dostana because she couldn't work with Abhishek. But ironically, she is back in Dostana 2. More over, she has also beaten the next most serious contender for the film - Katrina Kaif. Kats was the first actress to be finalized however, it didn't work out in the end. Advertisement

Kareena replaces Katrina in ‘Dostana’ sequel?

Sometime back, there were reports that Katrina was set to become the leading lady in the sequel of Priyanka Chopra starrer ‘Dostana’. And now, according to latest news, it’s not Kat but Kareena who’s been roped in by filmmaker Karan Johar for the same.
Kareena has recently completed ‘Kurbaan’ with KJo’s production house, and is currently working on ‘Stepmom’, co-starring Kajol, by the same banner. And the buzz is that the actress is all set to take over the leading lady’s title from Priyanka Chopra in the ‘Dostana’ series.

The film will now see none other than Bollywood hunks Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham wooing Kareena, not Kat or Piggy Chops. Although Bebo hasn’t been on good terms with both Abhi and John previously, the actors have now agreed to work together.

A source told a news daily, “Ironically, Kareena had been dropped from the first ‘Dostana’ because she couldn’t work with Abhishek. And now she’s back in ‘Dostana 2’. Never say never again, at least in Bollywood, where equations change every Friday.”

On the other hand, refuting the rumours of Katrina’s ouster from the much-anticipated venture, director Tarun Mansukhani said that he had never finalised Katrina for this one. “How could I finalise anyone until I finished the script except John and Abhishek who are an integral part of the ‘Dostana’ brand,” he asks.

About casting Kareena, the director said, “We are almost done with the script. At the moment I’m neither confirming not denying Kareena’s presence.” Advertisement

Katrina Kaif takes success in her stride

Katrina Kaif is one of Bollywood's leading actresses the most searched-for Indian female film star on the Internet and a former top model with an A-list boyfriend.

But the 25-year-old, whose latest film "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" ("An Amazing Story Of Strange Love") is released.

On November 6, said her rise to fame has not been easy and she is determined success will not go to her head.

"It didn't happen overnight. I was here struggling to make it as a model and tried my luck in acting," she said.

"I didn't know in the first place whether I wanted to be in acting but then good roles started coming and my films started becoming a hit. And here I am."

Kaif, born in Hong Kong to a British mother and a father of Indian Kashmiri origin, made a faltering start in the 2003 film "Boom" after being spotted in a commercial.

She has since notched up roles in high-profile films like the recent blockbuster "Blue", the 2008 action comedy "Singh Is Kinng" and the romantic comedy "Namastey London" in 2007.

The actress in part attributes her rise to actor Salman Khan, with whom she starred in the 2005 hit comedy "Maine Pyaar Kyon Kiya" (Why Did I Fall in Love?) and now dates, although she refuses to talk about her private life.

"He was there to guide me in the industry when I was new over here and will always be special to me," she said. Kaif said she was always confident of success, despite setbacks. "I have faced a lot of rejections and people always came up with one or the other excuse to reject me on flimsy grounds, but I kept going because I always knew someone would approve me," she added.

This year's "New York", about a group of friends in the city on the day of the September 11, 2001 attacks, was a critical and box office success -- and the moment Kaif said she felt she had made it in India. Kaif, brought up in France, Hawaii and London and one of seven sisters, said family values had helped her keep a perspective in a country that reveres Bollywood stars like gods.

"I had a very frugal upbringing. My mother was into charity institutions and to date, she is involved in charity work, so I know what hardship means," she explained. "I never had pocket money and didn't have access to material things."

Her mother now lives in the southern Indian city of Chennai and works with orphans. "Lots of people feel that whatever I have earned is because of the goodness of her work," she said. Kaif, who took Hindi and dancing lessons to help her acting career, says said she never wanted to be a star.

As a skinny teenager, she said boys would not give her a second glance -- though now her innocent beauty has brought worldwide fame among Bollywood fans. "As a girl I was fascinated about collecting marbles and my two elder sisters used to make me wash dishes in exchange for giving me marbles, which used to be the most precious possessions to me," she said.

"I never knew that the marbles were very cheap and my sisters were fooling with me to do their work." Despite now being one of Bollywood's biggest earners -- at a reported 30 million rupees (640,000 dollars) per film -- Kaif said she is unchanged by fame.

"I am still the same person. I am not a glamorous person in real life. I don't buy handbags like lots of other women do," she said. "I don't spend on shoes, too, and you will always find me in casual dress if I am not in a film costume.

"I don't want to look glamorous when I am off screen and I want to be as real as I can." As for criticism in the cut-throat world of Bollywood, where style often takes precedence over substance, she says she is "like every other girl".

"I am sensitive and I have my weakness. If people say, 'You have not lived up to expectations', I get upset," she added. "I want to do good films. Eventually I want to be married and do things that will make me happy. I got this opportunity in the country by starting with nothing." Advertisement
