For the cinematic adaptation of American author Elizabeth Gilbert’s best selling memoir ‘Eat, Pray, Love’, actress Julia Roberts is getting to do all that Gilbert did to seek spiritual insight while on her trip to India.
Roberts, who is presently shooting the film at Ashram Harimandir hermitage in Pataudi, a few kms from Delhi, will reportedly be cooking dal and roti in one of the scenes in the film. She would also be shown mopping the Ashram floor.
But the most daunting task for Roberts is to memorize a 182-verse Sanskrit chant. Since the actress doesn’t know or understand Sanskrit, she has transliterated all the verses in English and is committing the words to her memory.
“The scenes to be shot will show Roberts chanting the verses and also meditating while being bitten by mosquitoes,” a unit source says.
The movie’s shooting began on Sunday with a hawan.
Julia Roberts is in India along with her twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and son Henry.
‘Eat, Pray, Love’ is the story of an American woman who, after a failed marriage and a loveless relationship, embarks on a journey that takes through different countries and cultures. In Italy, she enjoys life (Eat). In India, she seeks spiritual rejuvenation (Pray), and in Indonesia she aims to find a balance between the two and find Love for herself. Advertisement
