Amitabh Bachchan made headlines when he decided to host Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus in early 2000. The game show went on to become one of the most watched of its time. Big B will soon be back on the small screen, this time to host Season 3 of the controversial reality show Bigg Boss.

The fact that Bachchan is now also officially the highest paid presenter on TV, is sure to add to the buzz surrounding his return.

Brought in as a replacement for Shilpa Shetty on Bigg Boss, the 'Shahenshah' of Bollywood will take home Rs 1.5 crore per episode. Multiply that by 84 episodes and what you get is a staggering Rs 126 crore paycheque for Bachchan.

Other Bollywood superstars who have made a foray into television, did not rake in quite as much. While Paanchvi Pass Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly paid Rs 1 crore per episode, Akshay Kumar too is believed to be charging a similar sum per episode for Khatron Ke Khiladi. Despite hiking his fees from Rs 80 lakh per episode in Season 1 of Dus Ka Dum to Rs 1 crore in Season 2 of the show, Salman Khan also falls way short of the Bachchan mark.

It's a new high even for Big B himself. For Bigg Boss, he is being paid nearly twice of what he got for Kaun Banega Crorepati. But there's an important difference between then and now. When KBC happened, the Bachchan brand was at its lowest ebb. Today the actor is among the country's top five celebrity endorsers.

If Shilpa Shetty with her minor fan following and no films to promote could get Bigg Boss a 2.2 TRP, Bachchan with his enormous brand value and at least nine releases in the pipeline, could certainly better that. Or at least that's what the show's producers would be hoping for.

Bhaiyya ji,

It's time to do charity and work for the poor. How much money will you earn and to whom you will leave it. Prayers from poor will help you when you on your judgement day after death.

Mr Amitabh,
It looks like whatever you are earning now is coming from common man's pocket.Think about the whole nation and the poverty our country has.Poor people in mumbai dont even have house to live and rich bastards like you are eating their basic needs as well."IN MOVIES YOU POTRAIT A COMMON MAN CHARACTER BUT IN REALITY YOU ARE JUST AN OPPOSITE"Stop being selfish and think about your country because you are no less than a typical indian politician only thinking for yourself.

I am not in India but still think about my country sitting abroad (Australia).

The only thing I have to say is that Big Boss is a crap show. I watched few episodes of last season and could not figure out why people are watching this. It is showing filth in the name of a reality show. Mr. Bachhan, you are a good man(or atleast thats what I think) you should not be doing and promoting such a crap just because you are being paid a handsome money.

Hello Jim Arora,

If you think so much about India, why the hell you left India. You selfish man for your personal progress and better living you left your mother land and now you are crying that their is no one who care for your poor brother's in mother land. Stop your brain drain abroad and come back to swadesh to improve India.

Stop thinking from Abroad come and live in India and do something. Otherwise keep your Autralian mounth shut.

Jim Arora,
U r just farting out there in Australi while thinking about India sitting on toilet seat. Can you list 1-2 things which you did for India or your society. Ar. AB might have done or not thats not the question. The question is what you did for your country? I am sure the guyz like u will not do anything for ur parents not to speak of India. You have proved that by accusing AB.
As Shubam said, u must be frustrated bastard because ur wife is cheating on you or she cought you while cheating on her.

I don't agree with Arora for abusing Mr. Amitabh. Not only that Amitabh is a great actor, he is well respected person in India and Abroad. Mr Arora should be ashamed of himself and should apologise immediately. Anybody (including me) can use worst-kind of abuses in such blogs but am refraining to do so but I can call you an Idiot who is sitting in a far-away country (looks like you feel safe that way) and using this blog to show hatred. Where were you when others like ShahRukh Khan, Salman and others who have been making about 1 crore per episode? Did you not remember the slums of Mumbai then? It is easy to ask Amitabh to donate his money for the cause of poor people, then how much money have you been donating for good cause since you settled in Australia? Also other bloggers are abusing Indians living abroad. For me, when I was in India I did not have a job. I found work in other countries and finally settled in US. I have no regrets but still miss my country. I donate some of my earning for feeding poor people (through temples) as well as send it to India for good cause. Don't think that for us, leaving India is not an easy decision and that we do not have feelings for our homeland. We keep abreast with all the developments in India. If I move to India, I will be taking someone-else job (I am a Software Engineer and should be able to find a job with similar pay). If I stay here, I have my job and save one job in India. This way two families are able to survive.

Come on Arun...dont flatter yourself by saying that you are saving a job in India by working abroad. I am sure that India has ample jobs and you can find one in India as well if you want to SURVIVE(atleast and atmost) and It is not bad to work for the betterment of yourself and your family. I wouldnt comment on whether Mr. Amitabh should donate money or not after all that is own money and he is the best judge of what he should do with that. I would definitely say that being such a respectable and to be looked at kind of personality, he should definitely watch how he is getting that money and what kind of impression that would leave on the society. If it were Rakhi Sawant, I wouldnt say the same thing to say the least.

Jai Hind.

Guys I don;t understand why in India people become so jealous about someone else's success. Big B is a brand and he has done immensely for the country. He unlike others does not openly come out to brag about his giving. I work for an NGO and i know he has supported monetarily for lot of causes both in Mumbai and other parts of the world. Think about this if 126 crore is all white money, he will have to pay about 50 crores in Tax, which is a lot of money for India Govt. Imagine someone donating 50Crores for the development of India, whether the money will be utilized properly is a different story. Another thing that i would like to point out is you don;t have to be in India to do good for the India. Think Bill Gates! He is not even an Indian and he probably has given more and done more than any other personality.
