Amitabh Bachchan, the Shehanshah of bollywood who plays a path- breaking character of a child Auro in Balki’s upcoming flick ‘Paa’, has his face made up of eight different pieces of clay, which were finally joined by an electronic spray to get a cohesive look.
In fact, Amitabh Bachchan had to sit for hours to get his make up done by international prosthetic artist Stephan Dupuis of 'Mrs. Doubtfire' fame. He would place different pieces of clay consisting of nose, ears, forehead, lips, etc, on the contours of his face and then get it glued to form a recognizable face of a 12-year-old kit Auro(Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan play parents), who was suffering from a rare disease of progeria.
During the process of make up, Amitabh Bachchan needed to exercise a lot of control and discipline, as a slight movement in the wrong direction would have rendered the entire make up process useless.
Sources say that Big B was not allowed to eat or do something else during the time when make up was on his face. In fact, two small holes had been made in his skull to enable him to hear something as his entire face was covered with clay pieces. Sometimes, after hearing some sound, Big B felt as if he was in some tunnel packed from all side.
Amitabh Bachchan, being a perfectionist, continued to shave off hairs from his chest, arms, head and other parts of body to give the character Auro, a more realistic look. In fact, in this disease the veins of the person become more pronounced and are visible from a distance.
Big B plays the character of Auro in the film, who suffers from a rare genetic disorder progeria. The disease causes premature ageing of a person and he looks older than his original age. Big B as Auro in ‘Paa’ plays a 12-year-old character, but looks like a 25-year-old due to this disease.
Sources say that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Big B’s bahu, has been taking active interest in the marketing strategy of upcoming flick ‘Paa’. The buzz is that Aishwarya Rai not only attends all the strategy making sessions along with director and creative team, but also finalizes it. She is said to be hell-bent on making ‘Paa’ a success at the box office and through it also the revival of AB Corp, Big B’s production company.
The insiders, who have seen the first rushes of the Big B’s flick, swear by Amitabh Bachchan’s terrific acting and feel that it will even surpass Balki’s earlier outing with Big B in ‘Cheeni Kum’. Big B had played the character of a chef in ‘Cheeni Kum’, while Tabu played his love interest and the movie rocked at the box office.
Aishwarya is hoping to do the same with ‘Paa’ too. Advertisement
